How Durable Is a Pipe Cutting Blade? A Real Steel Pipe Test
For a pipe cutting blade, sharpness is only part of the story. What really matters in daily use is how well the cutting edge holds up after repeated cutting.
Our CM Series pipe cutting blades are mainly designed for steel and galvanized steel pipe, with a maximum cutting wall thickness of up to 13 mm. With an upgraded manufacturing process, the latest blades offer improved edge durability and longer service life.
To make that easier to see, we also carried out a simple but fairly tough blade test.
A Direct Test: What Happens When the Blade Hits Steel?
Under normal working conditions, the blade is installed on the pipe cutting machine and used for rotary cutting.
For this test, however, we wanted to show the strength of the cutting edge in a more direct way. The blade was repeatedly struck against a small steel pipe, and the cutting edge was then shown close up.
After the test, no obvious chipping or visible damage could be seen on the blade edge.
This is not a normal cutting method. It is simply a durability demonstration intended to show how the cutting edge responds to impact.
What Pipes Is the Blade Designed to Cut?
The blade is mainly intended for common metal pipe cutting applications, including:
· Steel pipe
· Galvanized steel pipe
· Maximum cutting wall thickness up to 13 mm
It can also be used occasionally on stainless steel pipe, but we do not recommend continuous stainless steel cutting with the standard blade.
Stainless steel places greater demands on the cutting edge and can accelerate blade wear. For regular stainless steel applications, a blade designed specifically for that material is a better choice.
Longer Service Life Matters More Than Sharpness Alone
For professional pipe cutting, a blade should not only cut well when it is new.
The more important question is how long it can maintain stable cutting performance after repeated use.
With improvements to the manufacturing and machining process, the latest blade offers better edge durability and a longer working life when cutting steel and galvanized pipe.

In other words, blade price matters, but cost per cut matters more.
